Privacy policy
This site collects very little, and this page says exactly what. If a section reads as suspiciously short, that is because there is genuinely nothing there yet.

Who is responsible
nearbyuk is operated by FIXR SYSTEMS LIMITED, company number 15889598, registered in England and Wales. For UK data protection law, that company is the data controller. Contact: hello@nearbyuk.com.
What we collect
Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type. This site has no accounts, no logins and no comments. There are two forms, and they are the only places where you would tell us anything about yourself.
The two forms
Claiming a listing and adding a business both ask for your name, your role, an email address and, if you want to give them, a phone number, a website, an address and a company number. That is what a person needs in order to check the business is yours and to write back to you.
We keep it to do those two things and nothing else. It is not used for marketing, it is not passed to anyone, and it is not combined with anything else on this site. The details you send are stored on Cloudflare's servers in Western Europe.
We do not record your IP address when you send a form. To stop a robot flooding it we count requests briefly at the edge, which keeps no record of who made them.
If we turn your claim down, or you ask us to, we delete what you sent. Email the address on the contact page and say so.
Please do not send us photographs of passports or driving licences. If we ever need to see identity documents we will look at them and not keep them. For a limited company we check the public register at Companies House instead, which needs nothing from you.
Three things happen anyway, two of them as they do on any website:
- Server logs. Our host records the request: an IP address, the page asked for, the time, the browser's user-agent. This is how the site is delivered and how abuse is blocked. We do not use it to build a profile of anyone, and it is not combined with anything else.
- A count of the page. Separately from those logs we keep a tally of how often each page is read, so we know which ones are worth the work. Each entry holds the page, the site that linked to it if there was one, the country the connection appears to be in, whether it was a phone or a computer, and whether the request came from a person or a robot. It does not hold your IP address, the words you searched for, or anything that could tie one visit to another. Nothing is stored on your device to do it, which is why there is no consent banner to click through.
- Third-party content. Some things on the page are fetched from other companies, and your browser tells them your IP address in order to fetch them. They are listed below.
Cookies
We set none. See the cookie page for the detail, including what the third parties below may set.
Third parties whose content loads on this site
- The Preferred Sources button on listing pages, which is Google's own script and only does anything if you click it.
- OpenFreeMap
- The map tiles. Loads only when you scroll a map into view.
- Cloudflare (cdnjs)
- The mapping library, for the same maps.
Business photographs and logos are copies stored on this site, so looking at a listing sends nothing to the business's website or to Google's image hosts.
We have no control over what those companies do with a request, and their own privacy policies apply. Nothing is sent to any of them beyond what a browser must send to fetch a file.
What we do not do
- No analytics product and no Google Analytics. No advertising pixel.
- No retargeting and no tracking across sites.
- No selling or sharing of personal data. There is none to sell.
- No profiling and no automated decisions about anybody.
Business listings and personal data
Some listings name a person, because a sole trader's business name is often their own name, and a business phone number is sometimes a personal one. That information is published by the business itself and is already public. We publish it because there is a legitimate interest in people being able to find and contact a local business.
If you are named in a listing and want it changed or taken down, ask and it will be done. You do not have to give a reason and you do not have to prove anything: hello@nearbyuk.com.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to us processing it, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. For almost everyone the honest answer to the first question is that we hold nothing beyond a server log entry. Ask anyway if you want to be sure.
How long anything is kept
Server logs are kept for a short period for security and then discarded. Listing data is kept for as long as the listing is published.

This site will gain advertising and an email newsletter. When it does, this page changes at the same time rather than later, and the date at the top changes with it.
